The result

You get one of three answers

In plain words, with the record to back them up. No jargon to decode, no report to interpret.

Genuine and unchanged

This exact file is the one sealed when signing finished. You also see who signed it, when, and its entry in the public log.

Changed since it was sealed

It claims to be one of our documents, but the file was edited after completion. Ask the sender for the copy from their account.

No record of it

Not necessarily fake. It usually means the document was signed somewhere else, or this is a scan rather than the original file.

Behind the answer

What happens when you drop a file

1

Your browser fingerprints the file

The PDF is read right here on your device and reduced to a 64 character fingerprint. Only the fingerprint is sent to us, never the file, so a confidential contract is safe to check.

2

We look for that exact file

Change one character in a document and its fingerprint changes completely. A match means the file is, byte for byte, the one we sealed.

3

The record backs the answer

A genuine file comes back with its signers, its sealed audit trail, and its entry in the public log that anyone can check without trusting us.

What a match does and does not prove

It proves the file in front of you is the one DropTheDoc sealed when the last person signed, and it shows who signed and when, from the record we kept at the time. It does not prove who was sitting at the keyboard. That is true of every electronic signature, and our e-sign disclosure says exactly what ours is and is not.
